Another Doomsday prediction bites the dust…

“Comet Elenin (C/2010 X1), widely known for inaccurate reports of its threat to Earth, appears to be breaking apart. Observations by amateur astronomer Michael Mattiazzo of Castlemaine, Australia show a rapid dimming and elongation of the comet’s nucleus akin to that of Comet LINEAR (C/1999 S4), which also disintegrated when it approached the sun in 2000. Comets are fragile objects, so this development while unexpected comes as no surprise. ”

Mysterious balloon-like object over Loch Ness

Posted in Sightings on August 22nd, 2011 by Site Admin – Be the first to comment

The emergency services undertook a night-time search of Loch Ness after reports a balloon-like object had fallen from the sky.

The police, coastguard, lifeboat and an RAF search and rescue helicopter scoured the area but found nothing.

The alarm was raised at 20:00 on Saturday after members of the public said they saw a blue object fall on the south of the Loch, near Dores.

Police thought it might have been a hang glider or microlight.

However, following a three-hour search the emergency services could find “nothing untoward”.

Loch Ness RNLI crew member, Vivian Bailey, said: “Speed of arrival on scene was essential and we were able to link our search efforts with those of the Coastguard and RAF, something we practise regularly.

“We believe the reports were based on sightings causing genuine concern and we commend the actions of the members of the public that contacted the emergency services.”

Mysterious face in clouds

This brilliant video was captured during a storm in Canada.  Keep watching and at around 1 min 25 seconds you’ll see the cloud take on the form of a very clear face!

Is it just a case of Pareidolia (a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant), or some kind of message??

You can even save a history of the spirit’s responses by using the print icon at the bottom right of the board!

Shadow People

Posted in Paranormal (General) on July 28th, 2011 by Site Admin – Be the first to comment

In the evenings, I am often to be found sitting at the computer in the dining area of our L-shaped living/dining room.   As you can see from the diagram below, I am sitting at the  far left wall with the rest of the living/dining room area to my right.

Floorplan

In recent months, I have started to notice a moving figure shape out of the corner of my eye to my right – as though someone is coming past the fireplace towards the couch.

This shape is so figure-like that I tend to assume it is my son coming downstairs to get something.  I instinctively look around – only to find there is no-one there and in fact I’m the only person downstairs at the time.

Possible explanations I have considered are:

  • “floaters” in my eye (small debris in the jelly of the eye – like dust or a small insect – which can seem to look like actual objects).
  • a simple case of something to my right catching my eye, which has incorrectly translated into “movement” by my brain.   You’ll notice that the fireplace actually rounds the corner of the L-shape, so there are often objects sitting on the mantelpiece – perhaps something there is catching my eye?

However, as it seemed to be happening quite regularly – and only ever at that time of day and in that particular part in the room, I started to wonder if there was more to it.

So, I mentioned my experiences to my brother and he suggested that it could be likened to descriptions of Shadow People.

A quick search of Google confirmed that my experience could almost be considered “textbook” for Shadow People.   According to the Wikipedia entry:

“Shadow people (also known as shadow ghosts, shadow figures, shadow beings, shadow men, or shadow folk) are supernatural shadow-like humanoid figures that, according to believers, are seen mostly in peripheral vision and move quickly.”

For most people, the experience of seeing a Shadow Person seems similar to mine: a fleeting glimpse of a shadow-like figure in the corner of your eye.  But some have reported to see Shadow People straight in front of them – and some have even reported seeing red eyes on the shadow beings.

The theory is that Shadow People aren’t your typical “dead people” ghosts.  In fact, many believe that Shadow People are time travellers, while others believe that they are aliens from another planet.

And Shadow People sightings must be one of the most common “ghost” sightings in the world.  Experiences similar to mine are reported all over the world, every day of the week.

So, there’s only one thing for it: to try and catch evidence!  I’m going to set a video camera running any time I am sitting downstairs on the computer, pointed at the area where I usually see the fleeting glances of a moving shadow figure.  I’m also going to sit my mobile phone with EMF detector app running on the mantelpiece (i.e. near the source of the sighting) and ideally try to capture some audio EVPs while I’m at it.

It’ll be very interesting to see if anything can be seen or heard – and most importantly CAPTURED – at the very moment I have a shadow person experience.

Stay tuned for updates!

The legend of Slenderman

Posted in Paranormal (General) on July 27th, 2011 by Site Admin – Be the first to comment

Spot the Slenderman

If you enjoy paranormal-themed myths and legends, then you’re bound to have heard of Slenderman. This mysterious super tall and slim male figure has been spotted by people in various old photographs (see left).

Slenderman is said to be able to extend his limbs to inhuman lengths in order to capture his prey, and sprout tentacles when required.  His victims fall into a hypnotised state before … well, before Slenderman does whatever it is that Slenderman does.  Because that’s the thing – nobody really knows.  All we know is that he likes to stalk children but is clearly partial to the occasional adult too, going by the countless reports of people of ALL ages who have gone missing after a Slenderman encounter.

But it won’t take much Googling to find that Slenderman is entirely fictional, created in a thread on the SomethingAwful forums where users were each attempting to create a paranormal image.

The contest was about more than creating an image – fictional stories were created too in order to make the myth seem more convincing.

And, boy, did it work!

I’ve seen countless discussions on forums about Slenderman, including various reports that similar figures have been mentioned in “true story” books written decades before the Slenderman contest.  The theory is that Slenderman is real and has existed for centuries, powered by our belief in him.  But in time we forgot about Slenderman and so he disappeared … so the “contest” on Something Awful was nothing more than a way to bring him back to life!

But, fantastic as these ideas are, they have all been planted around the internet by people keen to perpetuate the myth as created on Something Awful.  A lesson to be learned here is: don’t believe everything (or anything?!) you read on the internet!

But something quite wonderful has come out of the Slenderman legend:  the efforts & imagination of brilliant amateur paranormal creatives have led to the production of some amazing Slenderman-themed bits of work.   From blogs written by people claiming to have encountered Slenderman (these blogs usually end abruptly, hinting at the author having gone missing) to the brilliant Marble Hornets series on YouTube (now available to buy on DVD!).  And not forgetting some excellent Slenderman art!

Leicester City Council ‘not ready’ for zombie attack

Posted in Paranormal (General) on June 10th, 2011 by Site Admin – Be the first to comment

“A worried member of the public has forced Leicester City Council to admit it is unprepared for a zombie invasion.

The authority received a Freedom of Information request which said provisions to deal with an attack, often seen in horror films, were poor.

The “concerned citizen” said the possibility of such an event was one that councils should be aware of.”
